GISچیست ؟

سیستم اطلاعات جغرافیایی (Geographic Information System) عبارتست از سیستمی متشکل از کامپیوتر، نرم افزار، روش و مدل های طراحی شده جهت حمایت، دریافت، مدیریت، تجزیه و تحلیل و نمایش داده های زمین به منظور استفاده در برنامه ریزی های پیجیده و مسائل مدیریتی.

GIS یک تکنولوژی در حال رشد است که ویژگیهای گرافیکی را با داده های جدولی ترکیب می کند تا مسائل دنیای واقعی را مورد ارزیابی قرار داده و آنها را شناسایی کند. با شروع حیطه GIS در سال ۱۹۶۰، با این اکتشاف که نقشه ها می توانند با کدهای ساده ای برنامه نویسی شوند و سپس در کامپیوترها ذخیره شوند، اصلاح ویژگیهای نقشه ها راحت تر و انعطاف پذیرتر شد. این یک تغییر خوشایند از دوره نقشه کشی دستی بود که نقشه ها می بایست با زحمت به صورت دستی (Hand Cartography) کشیده شوند و حتی برای تغییرات جزئی نیز دوباره می بایست نقشه جدیدی به صورت دستی ایجاد شود.
